South Korea under lot of Pressure in Asian Cup

South Korea go into the upcoming Asian cup tournament under a lot of pressure after their poor performance at the World Cup 2014.
After going into the tournament as one of top teams from Asia, South Korea failed to win even a single match. This is despite taking a large contingent of supporters to Brazil.

Since the disappointment, the team has undergone several changes including the appointment of a new manager. Results have been inconsistent in the last few months even in the friendly matches, but one of the nation’s most iconic footballer – Park Ji sung – says that he is confident of the national team doing well in the Asian cup.

They start the tournament with a match against Omanfollowed by ties against Kuwait and Australia. Park Ji sung is easily the most recognised star in these parts of the world and it is not surprising given that the former Manchester United man has won more than 100 caps for the national team. He has also lifted some of the top trophies like the UEFA Champions League. South Korea will be rebuilding under German coach Uli Stielike and Park Ji sung says that he has seen enough to suggest that South Korea will do well at the tournament despite facing stiff competition from the likes of Australia and Japan.

“In every Asian Cup there are only a few teams that chase the title. I think South Korea will be one of the teams who can win the title. It’s a big tournament, like a World Cup, a bit less but still big and the biggest in Asia. Every player should want to show their performance on the pitch and make it enjoyable for the fans. Korea has not won the title for a long time, so I think they should chase the title really seriously this time and be focused on the game,” said Park.
