MANCHESTER UNITED CULT HERO PARK JI-SUNG TAKES UP NEW ROLE IN THE K-LEAGUE

Former Manchester United favourite Park Ji-Sung has taken up a new job as he has been named the technical director of K-League 1 side Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. The retired midfielder was a cult hero at Old Trafford as he spent seven successful seasons under former manager Sir Alex Ferguson. He helped the Red Devils to domestic and European success as he won the Premier League four times and the Champions League once. During his spell with the Red Devils, Park made over 200 appearances for the club, scoring 27 goals before leaving for spells with QPR and PSV Eindhoven before official hanging up his boots in 2014.

Recently, Park had been coaching at QPR as a youth coach but he has now taken more responsibility in South Korea with Jeonbuk, where he had already been acting as an advisor. Now as technical director, the 41-year-old will be in charge of the club’s transfer business and helping run the youth set-up, and Park is hoping to add European culture to the club. The South Korean football legend Park Ji-sung was named the new technical director for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors on Thursday, being elevated from a consulting position to a powerful executive role for the K League 1 title holders. MOSCOW NIGHTMARE: HOW PARK MISSED OUT

The Korean Media labelled it the Moscow Nightmare after Park Ji-Sung was left out of the Manchester United squad for the Champions League final in 2008. Park Ji-Sung was a major absentee from the Manchester United squad for the 2008 Champions League final between Manchester United and Chelsea in Moscow.


Park Ji-Sung was Mr. Dependable for manager Sir Alex Ferguson and he had played every minute of the quarterfinal tie with Italian team AS Roma and the semifinal tie with Spanish La Liga outfit Barcelona. The South Korean had done enough for a place in the starting XI for the Champions League final only for him to miss out on the squad altogether. The all-action midfielder had also playedthe whole game against Wigan Athletic ten days before the Champions League final to help Manchester United seal the Premier League title for a second straight season. SON, A PERFECT FIT FOR UNITED

Tottenham Hotspur attacker Son Heung-Min would be a perfect fit for Manchester United according to his compatriot Park Ji-Sung. Ex-Manchester United star Park Ji-Sung drummed up a Manchester United transfer for South Korean senior national team captain Son in an exclusive chat with popular media outlet Goal as he joked that Cristiano Ronaldo wearing the number seven shirt is the only stumbling block for Son Heung-Min to join Manchester United. Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo was given his famous number seven shirt upon his return to Manchester United at the start of the season after several years of playing for clubs such as Real Madrid and Juventus.

SON BACKED BY PARK FOR UNITED

Manchester United legend Park Ji-Sung has backed Tottenham Hotspur star Heung-Min Son to be a hit at the Theatre of Dreams, but he believes that star player Cristiano Ronaldo won’t give up his number 7 shirt for anyone including Son in a hurry.

Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo completed a sensational return to the Premier League before the end of this summer’s transfer window after several years out of the competition. He returned to Manchester United twelve (12) years after he left the club to join Real Madrid in the Spanish league for a fee believed to be a world-record fee of £80m. Ronaldo came close to signing for Premier League holders Manchester City before the Red Devils stepped in to sign him when he became available. At that point, he had told Juventus officials that it was time for him to leave Italy after three years with the Old Lady and one year left to run on his then current deal.

PARK: SOUTH KOREAN NATIONAL TEAM CAREER

In addition to representing South Korea at senior level, Park Ji-Sung also featured for his country at the u-20 level and the u-23 level (Olympics). Park was a member of the South Korean football team to the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. South Korea were knocked out of the group stage on goal difference despite winning two of their group games. Park Ji-Sung featured in all the three group games at the tournament.


A lot of football fans didn’t know that Park started his South Korean national team career in the u-23 team as an 18-year-old defensive midfielder in 1999. His debut for the u-23s came against Chinese Taipei in an Asian qualifier for the football tournament at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. (more…)

WHY PARK WAS POPULAR AT UNITED?

Manchester United fans witnessed several successes on the pitch during the five-year period between 2006 and 2011. The club won four Premier League titles and reached three Champions League final within that period.

It’s almost easy to mention Cristiano Ronaldo, Rio Ferdinand, NemanjaVidic and Wayne Rooney as the principal actors from the five-year period stated above but there were some other players who were as important or even more important but didn’t get the recognition deserved in the form of individual awards like the Ballon d’Or or Golden Boot. Park Ji-Sung was certainly one of those players at Manchester United. The South Korean was an important part of the successful team built by manager Sir Alex Ferguson during the aforementioned period. His teammates have never missed the opportunity to praise him even years after leaving Manchester United. Park Ji-Sung earned the respect of his colleagues at Old Trafford both on and off the pitch.

FERGUSON REVEALS HUGE TACTICAL ERROR

Sir Alex Ferguson is widely regarded as one of the best managers in the history of football after a trophy-laden 26 years at Manchester United. Ferguson was the Red Devils manager between 1986 and 2013 when he made the decision to retire from football management.

Ferguson won several trophies at Manchester United including two Champions League titles and 13 Premier League titles. The Scotsman could have won more trophies going by his interview with SportBible and conducted by one of his former players. Gary Neville was an importantmember of the Manchester United squad that won the treble in 1999. He went on to captain the Red Devils after the exit of Roy Keane.

LINGARD DRAWS COMPARISON WITH PARK

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has drawn comparison between Jesse Lingard and Park Ji-Sung. Neville likened Manchester United loanee Lingard to Park Ji-Sung while he was speaking as a football pundit on Sky Sports.

PARK JI-SUNG NAMED CLUB ADVISER

South Korean football icon Park Ji-Sung has bagged an advisory role with one of the biggest clubs in his native South Korea. The former Manchester United player was named the adviser of South Korean top flight champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors last week and the owners of the club are hoping that Park Ji-Sung will use his wealth of experience to move the club forward. Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors are the champions of domestic football in South Korea and with a popular figure like Park Ji-Sung, they are hoping to stay at the top of club football in the Asian nation of South Korea for a long time to come.

Park Ji-Sung is a very popular figure in the football circles in South Korea despite the fact that he has stopped playing professional football for some years. Park Ji-Sung is the former captain of the South Korean national team and his appointment as the adviser to South Korean champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors is on a part-time basis as he shares his time between Britain and South Korea. PARK REVEALS SADDEST MOMENT AT UNITED

 

Manchester United legend Park Ji-Sung has revealed his saddest moment at the club. In a chat with United Unscripted, Park Ji-Sung revealed that finding out that he was not part of the squad for the 2008 Champions League final at the Luzhnicki Stadium, Moscow in Russia was one of the saddest moments of his football career.


Without the South Korean football legend in the Manchester United squad, the club was able to win their third European title. Manchester United beat Premier League rivals Chelsea on penalties in Moscow to lift the Champions League trophy for the second time. (more…)
